Summary
Treatment with three levels of Ethrel (0.1%, 0.3% and 0.6%) was conducted to
determine its effect on defoliation and flushing of persimmon cv. Thach That. Ethrel
induced abscission of leaves and stimulated flushing of Thach That persimmon earlier and
more uniform than the control (water). Treatment with 0.6% Ethrel at 50% and 80% natural
leaf-falling stages shortened the duration of leaf abscission by 16 to 28 days and 9 to 12
days, respectively. Ethrel solution of 0.6% appeared to be the optimal concentration for leaf
defoliation and breaking bud dormancy simultaneously.
